The objectives of this project are to promote (i) sustainable production of energy for export of surplus electrical power for national grid through replication of existing high pressure cogeneration technologies in the sugar sector and; (ii) sustainable consumption of bagasse by supporting sugar mills in adoption of high pressure cogeneration technology.

TERI proposes to demonstrate decentralised looming of jute using biomass gasifier based clean power solutions. To demonstrate this concept the project will take initiatives to establish two pilot processing- cum-decentralised jute business service centres with creation of micro entrepreneurs for decentralised jute looming in the target villages Bardrakoti and Amor of Purnea.

The high oxygen content, acidity and immiscibility with petroleum fuels hinders large-scale applicability of bio-oil obtained via pyrolysis of biomass. This project proposes to develop a technology for Catalytic Two-Stage Stabilization and Upgradation of Bio-oil for enhanced stability and potential applications as fuels. The first stage in the proposed work aims decreasing oxygen content and acidity for better stability of bio-oil.

Water4Crops project involves multidisciplinary issues of water management, provides an opportunity to efficiently utilize low quality industrial (food) and municipal wastewater and facilitate developing various technologies for wastewater treatment and its feasible use in agriculture. This project would also describe practical solutions of wastewater treatment and its management which open-up various avenues to scale-up such technologies.

The project is an upcoming World HQ building in Gurgaon and will involve different resource optimisation techniques with an aim to achieve 5-star GRIHA rating. The resource optimisation involves optimisation of energy and water consumption of the building. The optimisation will be done at different stages of the project and will start right at the construction stage by optimising the building design in terms of proper orientation, shading of wall, roof and glass. Various options of energy-efficient building envelope, lighting system, HVAC system will be analysed.

In order to make the two stage biomass gasifier more effective, further improvements are needed in the technology as well in related aspects like the establishment of reliable biomass fuel supply chain for gasifier systems. The thermal gasifier too needs further modifications in order to accelerate its uptake among MSMEs. In particular, the following issues need to be addressed: (1) The reliability of the power gasifiers needs to be improved in terms of maintenance and downtime;
