Facilitating Green Economic Recovery: Improving the uptake of cleaner technologies among MSMEs in Eastern India

01 Jan 2021
In Eastern India, the states of West Bengal and Jharkhand have a large number of energy intensive metallurgical and engineering clusters and industrial parks. Industries like foundry, forging, steel rolling, wire drawing, galvanizing and other mixed engineering units are concentrated in this region. In addition, with high growth expected for engineering goods over the next 10 years, large capital expenditure is being planned by new industries being set-up in up-coming industrial parks, like the Foundry Park in Howrah. These up-coming industrial parks present a unique opportunity to deploy new and efficient technologies and best practices. Both states have seen a huge reverse migration of industrial workforce due to the lockdown, who can be gainfully employed by the expected expansion of MSMEs and service provider network. The purpose of the project is to accelerate the uptake of cleaner technologies and practices among MSMEs and at the same time generate new jobs in the states of West Bengal and Jharkhand.
