Under the framework of country co-operation UNDP has sanctioned the project titled "Decentralized rural Energy Systems for the Integrated Development of Komna block, Nuapara District of State of Orissa, through Orrisa Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA).
In order to ensure a holistic and integrated approach to provide electricity, NTPC has undertaken a site specific study through TERI for setting up of DDG (decentralized distributed generation) projects for village electrification. The broad objectives of the study are as follows.
TERI, in association with the NTPC Limited, has set up a 10-kWe biomass gasifier system for electrification of village Bhaogarh in Rajasthan to provide electricity to 118 households. The project, the first of its kind in the state, will also supply power for street lighting, schooling, panchayat ghar, and shops.
The objectives are (1) to examine whether the assumptions made during the project formulation/appraisal are still valid or whether adjustments are required to achieve the overall project objectives; (2) to track the progress of the development activities during implementation; (3) to suggest for corrective actions in case of shortfalls or deviations;(4) to determine systematically and objectively
Main objectives: (1) Development of seedlings, nursery and plantation of high yield varieties of Jatropha on economic basis. (2) Procedure for identification of land within the forest wastelands and other in consultation with States.
It was established at the start of the 9th Five Year Plan that of the nearly 80,000 un-electrified villages in the country, 18,000 villages are located in remote and geographically isolated areas where it would be impossible or very expensive to lay transmission lines and provide electricity through extensions of the existing grid.
The objecitve is to enhance the production of oil wells. TERI in collaboration with the ISR (Institute of Reservoir Studies), ONGC, have jointly developed a thermophilic, barophilic anaerobic bacterial consortium for enhancing oil recovery in dead or abandoned oil wells.
High level workshop on INDO -US energy R & D '' will be organised by TERI and HRvard University on August 18-20, 2004 at India habitat centre , New Delhi. The workshop will be attended by experts from USA and India.
