Energy-efficient common lighting in Dwarka

The objectives are (1) to map out the existing lighting infrastructure in selected locations in Dwarka, (2) to assess the efficiencies of existing lighting systems in these locations, (3) to identify options for improving lighting system efficiencies, (4) to recommend appropriate technologies based on their cost-effectiveness in the context of replicability in Dwarka.

The Study and Development of 100 kWe Biomass Gasifier Based Power Generation System in Thailand

The Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE), Ministry of Energy, Thailand, has initiated the project on study and developing biomass gasifier based power generation in Thailand. The project was initiated mainly to develop the biomass gasifier based power generation in Thailand and to test different fuels and to check their feasibility (i.e. technical, economical etc) with the same gasifier based power-generating system, which will be used in the Thailand for further dissemination of the technology.

National strategy for urban poor

The National Strategy for the Urban Poor - NCR component, is an intervention funded by the UNDP, and is being taken forward in joint partnership between GoI and NIUA. The intervention focuses on the problems related to urban growth and the sub-standard conditions of survival, where the populations can only keep pace with subsistence by ever more heroic feats of self-exploitation and the further competitive subdivision of already densely filled survival niches.

The overall objective is to identify issues and opportunities that enhance the coping capacities of communities in dealing with the current climatic variability and future climate change. Specific objectives are: (1) Summarize recent and ongoing research on coping strategies, identifying factors responsible for enhancing capacities of communities in coping with and adapting to climate variability and change. (2) Undertake field-based case studies in drought- and flood-prone regions in order to elicit information on the degree of use and effectiveness of defined coping/adaptive strategies.

Time series study on air pollution and mortality in Delhi - public health and air pollution in Asian cities

Considering the significance of the problem of particulate emission and lack of scientific evidence on health effects of particulate matter in developing countries, a study to assess the relationship between air pollution and mortality in Delhi was initiated by a multidisciplinary team comprising researchers from TERI, VP Chest Institute, and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
