Biomass gasifier system for village electrification and water pumping - Phase II under BIMSTEC

Myanmar is committed toenhance the social and economic lives of its rural people within the context of environmental restoration and greening on a sustainable basis. Towards this end, it is considered to set up the biomass gasifier system for supplying electricity for various applications, including pumping of water in rural areas. TERI has, in January 2004, installed a biomass gasifier at Kokke Village in Myingyan Township, Mandalay Division, Myanmar, for curing tobacco.

Regional contract for project design and development and capacity building and outreach

The project activities will include provision of extensive capacity building and technical assistance to the various stakeholders (including communities, local NGOs, state and district implementing agencies, etc.) in order to facilitate the implementation of the sanctioned 21 VESP subprojects in Assam and West Bengal. The project activities will also include TA Support for the design and Implementation of 9 new VESP subprojects in these two states.

In situ bioremediation of sludge pits at OIL Duliajan

Oil India Ltd, Duliajan, (OIL) unavoidably generates enormous quantity of tank bottom oily sludge as well as oil/oily effluent soaked soil waste during drilling operations which constitutes a major challenge for hazardous waste management as well as environment management. Another problem lies while drilling operation. There is a requirement to transfer crude oil to adjoining pits due to the emergency activities of drill operation.

Detection and control of microbial-induced corrosion in oil and gas pipelines through a biotechnological approach

The project aims at development of efficient detection strategy of MIC (microbial induced corrosion) causing microbial strains in the pipelines so that the extensive damage is prevented by not allowing these microbes to colonize in the pipelines. Another strategy of work in this project is aimed to standardize a method to control the population of MIC causing microflora either by using biocides and/or by changing the nutritional regime. The outcome of the project will be very useful to the oil and gas industry.
