Ms Jaya Varma Sinha is engaged with the Transport and Urban Governance Division at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), where she serves as a Distinguished Fellow. She is the former Chairperson of the Railway Board.
A 1987-batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS), Ms Sinha has had an illustrious career spanning more than 35 years. Over this period, she has held several key positions, including Member (Operations & Business Development), Railway Board, and Additional Member, Traffic Transportation, Railway Board. She has worked on diverse verticals spanning operations, commercial, IT and vigilance. She was also the first woman to be appointed as the Principal Chief Operations Manager of South Eastern Railway.
Earlier in her career, she served as the Railway Advisor at the High Commission of India in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where she played a pivotal role in the launch of the Maitri Express between Kolkata and Dhaka.
Ms Sinha is an alumnus of Allahabad University, and has a keen interest in photography.
