Sodium-ion batteries for India’s energy transition

12 May 2020

Among a number of battery storage options that researchers have been pursuing, sodium-ion battery is now emerging as a potentially viable option for large-scale application. Sodium is abundantly available in salt in the oceans and is cheap. It can meet potential demand fully. It is in the same category as lithium as an element and was considered along with lithium in the early stages. Being heavier than lithium, it lost out at that stage. But now, quite a few are confident that they have gotten over the technological challenges, have patents and are now ready to enter the market and succeed.
