In the Indian context, since the late 1980s, the Government of India has given high priority and strong support to the development of agro-biotechnology in the country. Innovative technology has the potential to revolutionize Indian agriculture and position India as a major food supplier. A robust innovation environment must be created and maintained to move India in this direction.
