PRAROOP - GRIHA Green Mart

Sustainable can definitely be made affordable provided the right choices are made at the right time in consensus with the right design. To substantiate this, GRIHA Council set up an exhibition, 'Praroop- GRIHA Green Mart'.

Praroop, meaning a model or manifestation was set up to demystify the myth that "Sustainable is not affordable". The exhibition was inaugurated by H. E. Dr. Andreas Baum, Ambassador of Switzerland to India and Bhutan, Embassy of Switzerland.

The mart showcased different building material options of walling such as fly ash bricks, AAC blocks, Burnt clay bricks, insulation material such as glass wool, aluminium nitrile, Doors and frames materials, lighting fixtures such as LED, halogen, CFL, T5, Structure material such as OPC, PPC, solar PV panels of different capacities, external shading devices, rain water harvesting, paints etc. which allowed the visitors to craft and simulate a G+1 building choosing the most sustainable as well as cost effective materials. The software generated a green score, based on a comparison between the initial cost, operational cost as well as their sustainability index.

The exhibition was visited by representatives of the Heads of International Community in India together with multilateral/bilateral agencies, private sector partners, civil society, bureaucrats, and national electronic & print media among many. The exhibition helped the visitors to understand the relationship between sustainability and affordability and was well received by everyone.
