Heavy metal assessment of Yamuna River Water

01 Sep 2008 22 Jun 2012

Heavy metals reach our air, water, and soil predominantly as a result of industrial activities. Rising levels in soil over a long period are a major concern because of health risks caused even by low degree of exposure. Cadmium, Lead and Mercury has been particularly implicated for adverse effects on health.
In this study, we plan to estimate the levels of heavy metals in various environment facets associated with the Yamuna river. We would assess the irrigation water, the soil and crops grown in the basin for heavy metal contamination. In this two year study of the Delhi segment of Yamuna, we would explore environmental exposure to heavy metals in the agricultural community.
