Addressing vulnerability to climate variability and change through assessment of adaptation issues and options

21 Mar 2005 30 Nov 2007
The overall objective is to identify issues and opportunities that enhance the coping capacities of communities in dealing with the current climatic variability and future climate change. Specific objectives are: (1) Summarize recent and ongoing research on coping strategies, identifying factors responsible for enhancing capacities of communities in coping with and adapting to climate variability and change. (2) Undertake field-based case studies in drought- and flood-prone regions in order to elicit information on the degree of use and effectiveness of defined coping/adaptive strategies. (3) Analysis of impacts using climate scenario data in case-study areas and the responses to these impacts. (4) Suggest strategies to enhance adaptive capacities in core areas of agriculture and water resources management.
