Why is a 'just transition' so important for India?
Tackling climate change and environmental issues is the need of the hour. It is good for the economy, for the people, and the environment. But while these measures taken to reduce emissions and decrease the impact of climate change will be good for many, they might create trouble for the people employed in those industries. As the economies lean more towards cleaner energy fuels, people employed in the conventional fuel industries might face the risk of losing their livelihoods. This energy transition has led to the rise of a 'just transition' in the world now that ensures that it is inclusive in nature. This means taking account of the distributional consequences so that no one is left behind.
