HFCs – Enabling efficient refrigerant transitions

As a developing country, India is expected to have a growing market for cooling appliances, such as refrigerators and air conditioners. Considering the global warming potential of refrigerants that are currently used as coolants, India has agreed to phase them down if there are viable alternative solutions available. While Indian manufacturers have already started using transitional refrigerants with lower GWPs, to further facilitate the process with industries, TERI is supporting Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change in preparing the National Cooling Action Plan. In the process, it will familiarize the industry sector with India's refrigerant transition plan and take into account their perspectives on framework for implementation of the transition.
