TERI conducted a workshop on "Skill Enhancement and Exposure Training" for village-level operators on the two-stage biomass gasifier at TERI Retreat, Gual Pahari during April 20-25, 2015. This technology will be implemented across the villages to support livelihood activities and rural electrification.

TERI, in partnership with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) started a three-year project with the objective of accelerating the diffusion of biomass-based energy systems for meeting electricity needs of the rural population and clean energy needs of the MSME sector. Under the project, TERI, in collaboration with Denmark Technological University (DTU) and Sorena Sa, has developed a two-stage biomass gasifier system based on DTU and TERI technologies, which provides clean gas for power generation and has overcome several limitations of the earlier technology in terms of operation and environmental performance. The two-staged gasification process is characterized by having pyrolysis and gasification in separate reactors with an intermediate high-temperature tar-cracking zone. This allows for a very fine control of the process temperatures, thereby resulting in extremely low-tar concentrations in the producer gas.
