The two-day conference on virtual mode will discuss recent advancements in renewable energy latest technologies and provide a platform to stakeholders from India and ASEAN member countries to deliberate on renewable energy policies and regulatory frameworks.

ASEAN

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), India and the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Indonesia, are jointly hosting the ASEAN-India High Level Conference on Renewable Energy (RE) virtually from February 7-8, 2022. The theme for the conference is 'Experience and Innovations for Integrated Renewables Market'.

RE contributes to the acceleration of the energy transition, supports climate action and helps meet sustainable development goals. Thus, accelerated investment in the sector is imperative as we target for a low carbon future. With this background, the ASEAN-India High Level Conference on Renewable Energy aims to provide a platform for peer-to-peer discussions on RE technology, policy and regulatory frameworks amongst experts from Governments, academia, electrical utilities and industry from India and ASEAN member countries. Additionally, the conference will provide for a meaningful exchange of ideas, information and experience on various aspects of RE deployment.

Renewable Energy in ASEAN region

RE is one of the seven Programme Areas of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) and contributes towards accelerating energy transition, supporting climate change mitigation efforts under the Paris Agreement, and meeting sustainable development goals. ASEAN achieved a 13.9% share of RE in the ASEAN total primary energy supply in 2018. The 38th ASEAN Ministers of Energy Meeting (AMEM) held on November 19, 2020, endorsed the APAEC Phase II: 2021- 2025, retaining the same theme of "Enhancing Energy Connectivity and Market Integration in ASEAN to Achieve Energy Security, Accessibility, Affordability and Sustainability for All" with focus on "Accelerating Energy Transition and Strengthening Energy Resilience through Greater Innovation and Cooperation".

ASEAN will aim to achieve its aspirational targets of 23% share of RE in total Primary Energy Supply and 35% share of RE in ASEAN installed power capacity by 2025 by deploying large-scale RE systems.
