SOLAR THERMAL ENERGY FOR INDUSTRIAL DECARBONIZATION

India’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 hinges significantly on industrial decarbonization. Because replacing fossil fuels for process heat remains a primary challenge, low-carbon thermal solutions must be rapidly deployed across critical manufacturing operations.

To address this gap, TERI has released a new policy brief: “Solar Thermal Energy for Industrial Decarbonization.” The brief focuses on how solar thermal technologies can drive India’s clean energy transition in mid-temperature sub-sectors such as textiles, dairy, pharmaceuticals, and food processing.

Beyond identifying market barriers and cost-optimized emission reduction pathways, the brief advocates for a National Solar Thermal Mission to secure institutional support, mobilize fiscal mechanisms, and scale commercial adoption. Ultimately, this publication aims to elevate solar thermal energy as a vital, cost-competitive solution for India’s sustainable industrial future.
