Key projects
Accounting for around 15% of total vehicular movement, urban freight activities contribute significantly to the local air pollution, as commercial vehicle segment is largely dependent on conventional fuels. With rapid increase in freight activity, well-planned efforts toward achieving net-zero emissions target by 2070 are crucial.
The model involved setting up Uttam Urja Kendras or Solar Marts that are run by Women Energy Entrepreneurs (WEEs) who are mostly members of local self-help groups. The WEEs are trained and supported in business-related activities such as awareness generation, marketing, product demonstrations, after-sales service, etc.
The system has a loading capacity of 50 kg of fresh produce per batch. The hybrid dryer system is equipped with a controller developed by TERI for controlled and energy-efficient drying operations. The electrical energy requirement of the system is less than half a unit for 10 hour operation.
The populations at risk are extensive, particularly in small island nations and coastal areas with dense populations. Alarmingly, 42 million people in the Asia-Pacific region have already been displaced due to climate-related factors such as storms, floods, extreme heat, and rising sea levels, leading to significant internal and cross-border migration.
