Scope and Role of Natural Gas in Mitigating Industrial Air Pollution

06 Sep 2021

Some of the main objective of this project are:
1. Study of existing emissions policies and regulations applicable for various industries and estimate the potential reduction in emissions (PM2.5, PM10, C02 SOX and NOX) due to replacement of solid (coal/pet coke) and liquid (FO, Diesel and LPG) fuels by Natural Gas (NG) in the identified polluted industrial areas/clusters.
2. Assessment of potential reduction in water and land pollution due to replacement of solid and liquid fuels by NG in the identified polluted industrial areas/clusters.
3. Assessment of potential reduction in the costs of externalities due to replacement of solid and liquid fuels by NG in the identified polluted industrial areas/clusters and to identify the policy, technology and fiscal enablers to facilitate the switching to NG.
4. Estimate the NG demand in the identified polluted industrial areas/clusters and assess the benefits vis-a-vis more polluting solid and liquid fuels.
5. Study of challenges/issues faced by industries to switch to NG
6. Review the global experience - best practices adopted to facilitate the adoption of NG.
