Green Building Fraternity come together to discuss opportunities for sustainable habitat in India at the 10th edition of GRIHA Summit

The 10th GRIHA Summit & International Conference on Building Energy Efficiency Transformation is being held from 11th to 13th December, 2018 at New Delhi, will be co-hosted by University of New South Wales (UNSW), Australia, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) & Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in association with GRIHA Council.

New Delhi, November 28, 2018: Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon'ble Minister of State (I/C) in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Shri R.K.Singh, Hon'ble Minister of State (I/C) in the Ministry of Power and New & Renewable Energy have been invited to inaugurate the summit in the presence of Ms. Harinder Sidhu, Australian High Commissioner to India, Prof. Ian Jacobs, President and Vice?Chancellor, University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, Australia, Mr. Abhay Bakre, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Dr. Ajay Mathur, President, GRIHA Council and Mr. Sanjay Seth, CEO, GRIHA Council.

A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society. Taking cognizance of this, the theme of this year's summit has been aptly chosen as "Fostering Partnerships for Sustainable Habitat". Prof.B.V.Doshi, the first Indian Pritzker prize laureate for 2018 would be felicitated on the summit platform. Prof Helen Lochhead, Dean, Faculty of built environment, UNSW, Scientia Professor Deo Prasad, Director - CRC Low Carbon Living, UNSW, Dr. Sreedhar Cherukuri, Commissioner, APCRDA, AProf Alistair Sproul, Head, School of the School of Photovoltaic and Renewable Energy Engineering, UNSW, Ms. Henriette Færgemann, Counselor Environment Energy & Climate Change at EU Delegation to India , Ms. Leena Nandan, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ms. Almitra Patel, Member, Supreme Court Committee for Solid Waste Management, Mr. Prabhakar Singh, Director General, Central Public Works Department (CPWD), GoI and Professor Vivekanand Jha, Executive Director, The George Institute for Global Health, India and Professor of Nephrology and James Martin Fellow, University of Oxford are names of few eminent speakers who will be attending the summit during the course of three days from December 11th to December 13th, 2018. The summit is expected to be attended by over 1000 delegates.

On the sidelines of the summit, "AAKAAR - Reshaping self for sustainable future", an exhibition will provide a platform for the users and industry to experience various tools and technologies, such as augmented and virtual reality, in taking informed decisions for various choices in built environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sanjay Seth, CEO, GRIHA Council, said, "As we come together for the "10th GRIHA Summit", it is a time to recognise the success & achievements of GRIHA and its many partners. The year 2018 was a year of growth, transformation and achievements for the GRIHA Council. The collaborative effort of GRIHA Council & UNSW synchronizes the criticality of education and research for linking social, economic, political and environmental concerns towards advancing the sustainable development agenda globally."

GRIHA Council will also host a panel discussion, 'Is inclusive growth achievable by 2030?' on 3rd December, moderated by Mr. Jacob Koshy, Deputy Science Editor, The Hindu. This panel discussion will see key speakers like Mr. Atul Bagai, Country Head of UN Environment in India, Dr. Winfried Damm, Head of Indo-German Energy programme, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Mr Saurabh Kumar, Managing Director, Energy Efficiency Services Limited, Prof. Kavas Kapadia, Former Dean of Studies and Head Department of Urban Planning, School of Planning & Architecture and Dr. Ajay Mathur, President, GRIHA Council and Director General, The Energy and Resources Institute.

The 10th GRIHA Summit with the theme "Fostering partnerships for sustainable habitats" shall serve as a dynamic platform for industry partners, design practitioners, academia, policy makers, multi-lateral & bi-lateral partners and other stakeholders such AIS, Nalanda University, EU delegation to India, UNE, EESL, IREO, Experion developers, USG Boral and Autodesk to collaborate, deliberate on and share collective knowledge on innovative and indigenous solutions to promote sustainability through meaningful partnerships.

In the past, the GRIHA Summit has played host to various technical sessions on sustainable building policies, tools & techniques and exhibitions showcasing sustainable building materials, construction practices and technologies. GRIHA has been recognized as an effective tool to evaluate the environmental performance of a building holistically over its entire lifecycle based on quantitative and qualitative criteria. It seeks to minimise resource consumption, waste generation and overall ecological/environmental impact of buildings and habitats.

Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA) Council is an independent, not- for -profit society jointly setup by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India to promote and administer green buildings in India. GRIHA has been acknowledged as a tool to evaluate reduction in emission intensity through habitats, as part of mitigation strategy for combating climate change in India's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) submitted to UNFCCC.
