TERI signs an MOU with the Centre for High Technology on Pilot Scale Process Development for Generation of Pyrolysis Oil from Multifeed (Biomass, Tyre, Plastic)

​On 19th March 2025, a significant Memorandum of Agreement was signed between The Centre for High Technology (CHT), TERI and Indian Oil Corporation Limited R&D at OIDB Bhawan, CHT (MoP&NG). The collaborative project, titled “Pilot Scale Process Development for Generation of Pyrolysis Oil from Multi-feed (Biomass, Tyre, Plastic) and its Co-Processing in Refinery and Valorization of Biochar with LCA and Techno-Economic Assessment,” aims to upscale the pyrolysis product upgradation processes made through TERI’s patented pyrolysis technology. This will also demonstrate diverse applications of upgraded pyrolysis products through research innovation including co-processing in IOCL refineries. The pyrolytic char by-product will be valorized for making high grade carbon for Industrial applications.

The MoA is formally signed by Shri Rajesh Agarwal, Executive Director CHT (MoP&NG), Dr Dipankar Saharia, Senior Director (Administrative Services) TERI, Mr. Alex Pulikottil, Executive Director (Petrochemicals & Catalysts) IOCL R&D. Dr Piyali Das, Associate Director, Advanced Biofuels Division, TERI and Mr Souvik Bhattacharjya, Associate Director, Resource Efficiency & Governance Division, TERI also attended the signing ceremony as PI and Co-PI of the project. Other senior attendees included Mr R K Kaushik Singha Executive Director (Refinery Technology), IOCL R&D and Dr Satyen Kumar Das, Chief General Manager (Refinery Technology) & PI from IOCL R&D", Shri Shekhar R. Kulkarni, Director, CHT, Shri Lav Kumar, Additional Director, CHT, and Shri Gaurav Lunawat, Assistant Director, CHT.
