TERI organized the launch of its report Indian Armed Forces and Environmental Sustainability: A Comprehensive Assessment of Simulators in ‘Green Training’ on 26 May 2026 at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi. The event brought together senior representatives from the defence establishment, policymakers, think tanks, and industry leaders to deliberate on integrating sustainability into defence preparedness and modernization initiatives.
The report highlights the environmental, operational, and economic advantages of simulator-based military training, emphasizing its potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, fossil fuel consumption, ammunition use, and equipment wear and tear, while enhancing training efficiency and combat readiness.
The programme featured keynote and special addresses by distinguished speakers, including Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI; Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff; Lt Gen V K Saxena (Retd.), Distinguished Fellow, CENJOWS and CLAWS; and Mr Nitin A Gokhale, Founder, Bharat Shakti. The speakers emphasized the need to align defence preparedness with sustainability priorities and highlighted the strategic importance of simulator-based training.
The event also featured a roundtable discussion on “Green Training for Armed Forces”, moderated by Mr Nitin A Gokhale. The panel included Mr Ashok Atluri, Chairman and Managing Director, Zen Technologies Limited; Major General Ashok Kumar Dhingra; and Mr Souvik Bhattacharjya, Director, TERI, alongside Lt Gen V K Saxena. The discussion focused on accelerating the adoption of simulation technologies across defence systems, strengthening institutional frameworks, and integrating sustainability into long-term defence planning.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr Souvik Bhattacharjya, reaffirming the importance of balancing national security objectives with environmental responsibility and operational efficiency.
