YUVA Meet 2011: Road to global sustainability via local initiatives

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) - in partnership with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the British Council, and the Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi - recently organized the Third Yuva Meet on 'Road to Global Sustainability via Local Initiatives, a special two-day event and a part of TERI's annual flagship initiative, the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS).

This year, about 200 participants, including national and international students, and young researchers and social entrepreneurs from across 14 nations, with diverse backgrounds, participated in the meet. The students were from India, Srilanka, Maldives, Argentina, Canada, Kenya, Swaziland, Russia, Kyrgystan, the Phillippines, Japan, Korea, Fiji Islands, and Malaysia. The meet enabled the youth from all these countries to understand the pivotal role they have in spreading the knowledge on key environmental concerns, and collectively voice their views, exchange ideas, and form a common network, thereby reaching out to many more like-minded people.


Major highlights of the YUVA 2011 meet

Green Globe Award for the outstanding Youth category was bagged by Ms Latika Nayar.

Selected student participants took part in DSDS 2011.

Non-governmental organization exhibition, poster display, and movie screenings were organized.

Interactive sessions, role plays, and simulation exercises for raising environmental awareness were arranged.

Through the Solution for Change, a unique concept, the young participants got a chance to give solution to real-life environmental problems.
