TERI is harnessing the potential of microalgae to revolutionize animal nutrition, addressing the escalating demand for sustainable feed alternatives in poultry, aquaculture, and cattle rearing. Our research focuses on naturally resilient strains isolated from mangrove ecosystems. These strains are rich in high-quality proteins and essential omega-3 fatty acids—nutrients critical for the health and productivity of livestock and aquatic species.
These mangrove-derived strains offer a strategic advantage across the agricultural value chain. By integrating algae into feed formulations, we reduce the industry’s heavy dependence on conventional, resource-intensive feeds like fishmeal and soy. Key benefits include:
By converting sunlight and CO2 into nutrient-dense biomass, our algae-based solutions significantly lower the carbon footprint of livestock and aquaculture farming. This innovation is a vital contribution to India’s circular bioeconomy, driving improvements in animal productivity and farmer incomes while safeguarding natural resources.
TERI continues to pilot these eco-friendly feeds, paving the way for a resilient, protein-secure, and climate-smart future.
