Designed to enhance rural livelihoods while generating measurable climate benefits through agroforestry-based tree plantation, this initiative, focused on the Gorakhpur Forest Circle in Uttar Pradesh, leverages a robust collaborative framework with the state’s Forest Department to drive farmer mobilization and data collection. Since its inception in 2021, the project has functioned as a strategic Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) initiative under the Carbon Market framework, promoting the plantation of woody tree species to maximize carbon sequestration, restore soil health, and improve overall farm productivity.
By enabling participating farmers to access carbon finance through the generation of tradable carbon credits, the project provides a sustainable secondary income source while fostering biodiversity conservation across agricultural lands. Having successfully navigated key developmental stages, including baseline assessments and the submission of the Monitoring Report (MR) for third-party verification, the project is now poised to generate verified carbon credits, firmly establishing a model that integrates climate mitigation with long-term socio-economic resilience for rural communities.
