MY WATER (Mobilizing Youth for WATER conservation) - Phase II - is an extension of the MY WATER programme that was initaited on June 5th 2005. The programme aims at sensitizing students on careful usage of this precious resource. Under this project, rooftop rainwater harvesting systems are being implemented in schools and all the students (Std I - Std XII) are being involved in a wide range of awareness activities. Technical workshops on the basic principles of rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge are being conducted for the students. Awareness is also being created through field visits, assembly programmes and competitions. During phase 1, rainwater harvesting systems were constructed in five Kendriya Vidyalayas in Bangalore and thirteen Kendriya Vidyalayas were part of the awareness campaign. In the second phase, implementation and awareness activities are being taken up in ten more schools.
The school run by the Spastics Society of Karnataka has been included as a project school in the second phase. TERI professionals and special educators have trained a group of students from the Spastics Society School to deliver a presentation on 'the need to conserve water'. This presentation is being delivered to students from other project schools during the technical workshops.
