The adoption of electric vehicles in India is steadily increasing, driven by growing environmental awareness, supportive government policies, and subsidies. Among the key enablers of this transition, such as access to finance and consumer awareness, the availability of robust charging infrastructure, a skilled workforce, and structured training play a crucial role. To address this need, Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India (MBRDI) has partnered with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to explore opportunities for training young technicians in managing EV charging infrastructure across the country. “Future-In-Charge,” launched under Mercedes-Benz’s Sustainability Garage initiative, is a pioneering skilling program focused on the maintenance and management of EV charging infrastructure in India. The program combines classroom learning with hands-on training on real-world charging systems to equip trainees with industry-ready skills. The first pilot batch of 60 participants has already commenced training at TERI’s Gwal Pahari campus, setting the stage for a scalable model to accelerate India’s transition toward sustainable mobility. Adding to this milestone, a first-of-its-kind whitepaper titled “EV Charging in India: Ecosystem Perspectives and Skilling Opportunities” was unveiled at the 3rd Edition of the Mercedes-Benz Sustainability Dialogue in India, laying the groundwork for future growth, collaboration, and innovation in the EV ecosystem.
