Dr Leena Johny is a Fellow and Area Convenor of the Centre for Mycorrhizal Research within the Sustainable Agriculture Programme. Specializing in mycorrhizal fungal research, her expertise spans plant-microbe interactions, in vitro hairy root systems, and the development of mycorrhiza dual culture systems. Her work also explores mycorrhiza-enhanced metabolite production and the functional characterization of mycorrhiza-associated bacteria, including the tripartite symbiosis between fungi, bacteria, and plants.
Her research focuses on developing sustainable agricultural solutions through microbial technologies that enhance soil health, crop productivity, and climate resilience. Dr. Johny has played a key role in the technical development and scale-up of mycorrhiza-based biofertilizers, bridging advanced biotechnology with practical field applications. She holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences from Deakin University, Australia.
