Green buildings likely to get more FARs

Following a recent announcement by the lieutenant governor of Delhi, green structures in the capital may be allowed a larger floor area ratio (FAR) compared to conventional buildings. Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) has also recently recommended to the urban development ministry that the FAR for green buildings be increased by 1%. Going a step further, Indian scientists have extended the mycorrhiza technology by integrating it with seed coating. TERI has developed mycorrhiza-coated seeds to enhance yield and reduce chemical fertilizer use, which can prove to be especially beneficial for farmers of Punjab and Haryana struggling with deteriorating soil health and stagnant yields.

The rise in sea levels around the Sundarbans delta - the world's largest mangrove forest spread across India and Bangladesh - is a cause of concern, said Dr R K Pachauri, Director-General of TERI.
