The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and Energy Conservation Center, Japan (ECCJ) organized a workshop on 'Japanese Experience on Promoting Heat Pump Systems for Energy Efficiency' in collaboration with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), New Delhi and Ministry of Economic Trade and Industry (METI), Japan on February 4, 2014 at Sheesh Mahal, Taj Palace Hotel, Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi.

TERI and ECCJ have commenced the program to promote energy efficient low carbon heat pump Japanese technologies in industry and building sectors in India to generate wider awareness on heat pump technology, share the knowledge and experiences of Japanese experts on heat pump system. About 57 participants from government, industry, consultancy agencies and relevant organisations attended the event. The workshop summarized the benefits offered by heat pump systems over conventional cooling and heating systems in terms of higher energy efficiency levels (30-47%), which could be increased up to 70% through better sizing, control and operating practices. The Japanese experts shared deeper knowledge and experiences on this innovative technology.
