UNCCD COP17: Digital MRV & Carbon Finance — Unlocking Investment for Land Restoration

At the UNCCD COP17 Green Zone Finance Day, The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), in collaboration with Value Network Ventures (VNV), Singapore, and Green Mongolia Hub (GMH), Mongolia, will host a joint panel discussion titled “Digital MRV & Carbon Finance.” Scheduled for 24 August 2026, from 13:30–15:00 ULAT (GMT+8) at Tsagaadai Hall in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, the session will convene international experts from research institutions, carbon-market organizations, project developers, and the private sector to examine how emerging digital technologies can accelerate high-integrity climate action.

As land degradation threatens ecosystems and rural livelihoods globally, scaling up land- and nature-based carbon finance requires transparent, verifiable, and scalable systems. This session will explore how the convergence of digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (dMRV), geospatial remote sensing, AI-enabled analytics, and field-based monitoring can strengthen data credibility and build investment readiness. Discussions will also highlight critical dimensions of carbon-market integrity, project implementation, local community participation, and sustainable livelihood generation, demonstrating how digital evidence can mobilize public and private capital for restoration efforts. TERI will contribute core insights grounded in its extensive operational experience delivering geospatial MRV frameworks and land-based carbon finance projects across developing regions.
