Seminar on "Application of Data Analytics in Smart Libraries"

As a prelude to the ICDL 2016, TERI organized a seminar on the 'Application of Data Analytics in Smart Libraries' on August 11, 2016 at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The event was organized to commemorate the 124th birth anniversary of the Father of Library Science, Dr S R Ranganathan.

The event started with a brief overview of ICDL 2016 by Dr P K Bhattacharya, Fellow and Area Convener, TERI. Dr Usha Mujoo Munshi, Librarian, Indian Institute of Public Administration stressed on the need for libraries to adopt, adapt, and assimilate new and innovative technologies to meet the current user demand. Dr Moonis Shakeel, Assistant Professor, Jaypee Institute of Business Management talked about the role of big data and data visualization tools for data curation and application. Mr Kaushik Roy Chowdhury, Management Consultant (Analytics), Accenture Consulting laid emphasis on the need for deriving analytical value from social media data for engaging with users.

The seminar highlighted the opportunities that data analytics presents to libraries for supporting decision-making processes and information service delivery. The event was attended by over 50 participants from libraries, knowledge centres, consultancies, research institutes, and universities.
