SASMIRA and TERI Join Hands to Drive Sustainable Innovation for India’s Future

The Synthetic & Art Silk Mills’ Research Association (SASMIRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) on 3rd December 2025 at the SASMIRA Campus in Mumbai to jointly plan and implement research and development initiatives of common interest.

Founded in 1950, SASMIRA is one of India’s premier textile research institutions, known for its pioneering work in sustainable processing, agrotextiles, nanotechnology, biodegradable materials, and smart innovation. Beyond R&D, it has built a strong reputation as a leading educational institution, offering multidisciplinary programs in textiles, fashion, design, commerce, and management, as well as professional training in fashion sustainability, circularity, CSR, ESG, and reporting.

TERI, established in 1974, is an independent, not-for-profit research organization delivering science-backed, impact-driven solutions in energy, environment, climate change, and sustainable development. Over the years, it has emerged as a national leader in fields ranging from clean energy and sustainable agriculture to water security, land resource management, air pollution, low-emission transport systems, CSR, and business sustainability.

The collaboration aims to develop sustainable, eco-friendly practices and build capabilities in areas of mutual interest, including the environment, energy, climate change, and the textile and allied sectors. It will also foster academic growth, knowledge sharing, and research advancement through the exchange of students and researchers, alongside the joint development of impactful publications. Furthermore, the combined CSR and ESG expertise of both organizations will help drive positive societal impact and strengthen business sustainability.

The MoU was signed by Shri Mihir R Mehta, President, SASMIRA, and Shri Shailesh G Tembhurnikar (IFS, Retd), Distinguished Fellow, Land Resources Division, TERI. The event was graced by Smt Smita A Yeole, Vice President, SASMIRA; Dr Ashok Tiwari, Director General, SASMIRA; and Shri Ravi Singh, Deputy Director, SASMIRA, along with other dignitaries from both organizations.
