Roundtable Discussion: Transformative leadership for climate actions on Finance, Technology and International Cooperation

Countries across the Global South have set ambitious targets for energy transition, a key element of their climate action. Implementing such ambitious targets, however, is dependent on several factors like conducive policies, progressive business actions, and access to clean technologies enabled by international cooperation. Innovation—including digital tools and AI—can amplify Global South leadership when paired with inclusive strategies and equitable finance.
TERI recently published a paper in collaboration with the We Mean Business Coalition, incorporating reflections from TERI’s Industry Charter for Near Zero Emissions Ambition by 2050. The paper examines the potential for private sector participation in enhancing India’s climate efforts, noting that leading public and private sector organizations understand climate change is a material risk and are responding to the challenge. For instance, 127 Indian companies have committed to Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)-aligned goals, demonstrating their commitment to net-zero target setting. Digital tools can enhance progress tracking and lend credibility to their climate commitments, thereby enabling access to green finance.
The roundtable will ideate on the benefits of disseminating best practices, strengthening cooperation between nations in the Global South, and promoting progressive business actions.
