Background
The increasing use of social media for information sharing has elevated the need for information literacy (IL) education to prepare students to be effective information creators and communicators. One concern is that students sometimes indiscriminately forward misinformation. Understanding the reasons behind misinformation sharing would help the development of IL of Digital Literacy intervention strategies.
Misinformation is a phenomenon that has existed for centuries, but the new information technologies — including the Internet and social media — have potentiated its strength. While digital platforms have brought great benefits, they have also allowed false information to be produced, disseminated and expanded at a rate and proportions never seen before.
On Internet alone, there are 1.3 billion web pages that allow 3.7 billion users to interact and exchange information daily, according to the document A Digital Single Market for the benefit of all Europeans (2019) made by the European Commission.
Faced with a problem of such large dimensions, what can education institutions and teachers do? How can educators teach children, adolescents and young people to be critical with the content they consume?
The disinformation epidemy is undeniable and it cannot be resolved without the help and proactive role of teachers and educational institutions.
This webinar will address the following issues:

A panel of experts drawn from Government of India, Multi-lateral Organisations and Academic set up will convene the webinar to address the most pressing societal challenges in the 21st century.

Dr P K Bhattacharya Senior Fellow and Associate Director, Knowledge Resource Centre, TERI
Dr Bhattacharya is Senior Fellow & Associate Director at Knowledge Management Division, TERI (The Energy and Resources Institute), New Delhi. As Librarian, he supervises and manages library procurement, management and services in TERI. Dr Bhattacharya also functions as Coordinator and Head of Environmental Information System on Renewable Energy and Climate Change in TERI which prepares several subject specific reports and undertakes several implementation projects on behalf of Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change, Government of India.

Ms Richa Sharma Agnihotri Principal, Sanskriti School, New Delhi
Ms Richa Sharma Agnihotri, the Principal of Sanskriti School is a passionate teacher and committed and creative educator. She has over twenty eight years of experience in International Curricula. She spent over fifteen of those years at the British School, New Delhi where she taught Physics from classes IX to XII and also led a number of school programs and initiatives. She has worked for eight years at Step by Step School, Noida as a Curriculum Leader where she set up the International curriculum for classes IX to XII. An alumna of Hindu College and Miranda House, the University of Delhi, Ms. Agnihotri has an Honours Degree in Physics as well as a Masters in Physics, a B.Ed and a Masters in Education. An excellent trainer and workshop leader, Ms. Agnihotri helped develop the CBSE CCE Handbook for teachers and formulate the CBSEi Curriculum for Science. She has also been an Examiner and a Recognitions ambassador for the IB in India and is a certified trainer with Cambridge International Examinations.
Mr K Murugan Joint Director(IT) - Education Department Cum Additional General Manager, GSDL, Govt. of NCT Delhi
Mr K Murugan is MCA from Allagappa University, Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu; MBA (Disaster Management) from IP University, Delhi.
He has 25 years of experience in the field of IT & ICT in Govt Sector which includes - handling of e-District Project, computerization of Sub Registration and computerization of land record; GIS Projects at Geo Spatial Delhi Ltd. Govt. of NCT Delhi.
At Department of Education (DoE), Government of NCT of Delhi, he is looking after Online – EWS/DG Lottery system, Mobile app for students, attendance/teachers/Notificat ons/Circulars, Implement Digital classroom, Implement of Connected classroom, Overall managing the MIS Project, Online classes for DOE Students.
Mr Priyank Kanoongo Chairperson, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR)
In order to achieve the mandate of NCPCR, closely monitoring the effective implementation of Right to Education Act, Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, POCSO Act, Child Labour Act etc.
Earlier, worked as Member from November, 2015 to 16th November, 2018 in National Commission for Protection of Child Rights under Ministry of Women & Child Development and looked after Education Division of the Commission. As Chairperson, he is actively involved in undertaking various consultations with stakeholders on regional & national level and undertaken various studies and special investigations in the field of Child Rights.
