As the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) approaches its Silver Jubilee edition, there is a renewed focus on reinforcing its relevance within a rapidly evolving global sustainability landscape while clearly articulating India’s leadership role. Over the past 25 years, WSDS has evolved into a globally recognized platform for dialogue on sustainable development, bringing together leaders from government, industry, finance, and international institutions. This milestone edition presents a critical opportunity to sharpen the Summit’s positioning by foregrounding Indian private sector leadership, deepening engagement with domestic stakeholders, and aligning national priorities with global conversations on climate action, transition pathways, and sustainable finance.

Recent strategic deliberations have highlighted the need for the Silver Jubilee edition to more visibly reflect the role of Indian industry in driving climate solutions, mobilizing capital, and shaping forward-looking narratives on growth and sustainability. Simultaneously, there is increasing recognition of the importance of engaging a broader set of actors from the climate and sustainable finance ecosystem—including impact investors and private equity funds—whose participation is essential to scaling solutions and enabling implementation. In response to these priorities, this convening has been conceptualized as part of a broader outreach strategy for the Summit, aimed at building early momentum and strengthening domestic stakeholder ownership.

The engagement will bring together senior leaders from Indian corporates and representatives from impact funds and private equity firms active in the sustainability space to enable a focused, forward-looking dialogue on how industry and finance can collectively contribute to climate action. It is intended to reinforce the value of WSDS as a platform that meaningfully connects policy, business, and finance, while fostering interaction between corporate leadership and capital providers. Through these exchanges, the convening seeks to align ambition with finance and implementation, ensuring deeper participation in the Summit’s Silver Jubilee edition.

This engagement is also envisaged as an opportunity to shape perspectives and narratives that extend beyond the immediate dialogue. Insights emerging from the discussions are expected to inform broader conversations on India’s sustainable development priorities in the run-up to key international platforms, including the World Economic Forum. In this context, the convening aims to support coherence in messaging, highlight the role of Indian industry and finance in global sustainability discourse, and strengthen the overall positioning of WSDS as it marks 25 years of impact.
