GO4YOUTH

GREEN Olympiad for Youth (GO4Youth) launched in 2020, is on the side-lines of GREEN Olympiad- a leading school-based initiative of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). GO4Youth is an annual MCQ-based examination for students in age group of 18 – 25 years enrolled in Higher Education institutions (HEIs) in India. Since the formal adoption of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015, governments and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) have been calling out to youth for a meaningful participation in decision making and implementation of post 2015 agenda. Against this commitment, the journey started with an endeavour to strengthen environmental conscious behaviour and attitude of youth, thereby enhancing their awareness about climate change, pollution, waste management, sanitation, conservation of biological diversity, management of biological resources and biodiversity, forest and wildlife conservation, and sustainable development and living. The examination follows an interdisciplinary approach, enriches environment quotient of youth and also covers information highlighted in Mission LiFE and other national priority schemes.

GO4Youth is endorsed by University Grants Commission (UGC); Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

The programme was launched on January 31, 2024 by Prof. Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, Chairman, UGC in the presence of Dr Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI and Dr Dipankar Saharia, Senior Director, Administrative Services and Regional Centres. The online event was well attended by more than 1000 students from across the country, along with participation from vice chancellors and faculty heads. Dr Livleen K Kahlon, Associate Director, EEA, TERI presented a brief outline on the project, followed by a video tutorial on the registration process.

In 2024, the mode of examination of GO4Youth will be ONLINE, comprising of 50 questions with no negative marking. The examination will be held from April 8 to 12, 2024 and students can choose their own slots on any of the aforementioned dates. GO4Youth registration is now live, till February 25, 2024

The journey started in 1999 as India’s premier environment quiz for school students. It has since incorporated within itself several stages of initiatives at TERI in the field of sustainability transformation matching the aspirations of the academic community and established itself as an Environment Education brand.
