The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India are jointly organizing a "Demonstration of Web Portal for RPO monitoring and Compliance in India" on June 28, 2017 at Tamarind Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

The Government of India's Policy initiatives have led to a tremendous growth and development of renewable energy (RE) sector in the country. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India, along with all the State Nodal Agencies (SNAs) have already taken appropriate policy initiatives for achieving the target of 175 GW of renewable energy by 2022, with solar capacity of 100 GW. The Government of India in July, 2016 notified the Long Term growth trajectory of Renewable Purchase Obligations (RPOs) for Non-solar as well as Solar, uniformly for all States/ Union Territories, initially for three years from 2016-17 to 2018-19 reaching 17% of RPO by 2019, with solar RPO being 6.75%. Data collection and availability of pertinent information regarding RPO compliance are important for effective implementation of the scheme. In this regard, TERI in association with the MNRE has developed an IT-enabled portal which would enhance the access to relevant information pertaining to RPO for stakeholders. It would provide a centralized platform to monitor RPO compliance status for all the states. In this context, TERI is organizing an interactive work session on demonstration of the web-based portal for the stakeholders to accelerate grid- connected RE capacity addition in the country. The objective of the demonstration of the portal is to align and collate data and to implement it at the national level. The success of the proposed mechanism will depend on adoption of precise definition of the roles and responsibilities of the institutions, adoption of the appropriate governance structures and capacity building to undertake defined roles and responsibilities. This workshop will also deliberate upon on this topic.
