Counting What Counts: Delivering & Demonstrating the Global Biodiversity Framework through Capacity-Enabled Forest Landscape Restoration, Community-Governed OECMs & an Integrated Monitoring Backbone
TERI, in partnership with Forest Survey of India (FSI), GIZ India, IUCN, ICFRE and ICIMOD, and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) is participating in a side event at CBD COP17 in Yerevan, Armenia, focused on advancing measurable and verifiable outcomes for biodiversity conservation and forest landscape restoration. The session will explore how India is integrating Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR), community-governed Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs), and Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER) systems to support implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF). The side event is being organised by the FSI in association with the RECAP4NDC consortium partners. RECAP4NDC is an Indo-German, International Climate Initiative (IKI) funded project, commissioned by The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN).
Bringing together experts from government, research institutions and international organizations, the discussion will highlight pathways for moving beyond reporting restoration activities towards demonstrating tangible ecological, biodiversity and climate outcomes. Key themes include evidence-based monitoring, community stewardship, biodiversity finance, policy integration and knowledge sharing for scaling landscape restoration efforts.
