COP 31 Side Event- Heat Resilient Strategies: Robust Science, Real-Time Solutions

17 Nov 2026 17 Nov 2026
GORDIYON, Blue Zone

As heatwaves become more frequent, intense, and prolonged due to climate change, building heat resilience has emerged as a critical priority for safeguarding public health, livelihoods, infrastructure, and economic productivity. Effective responses require a comprehensive understanding of the drivers of heat stress, ranging from long-term climatic trends to the impacts of short-lived climate pollutants such as methane (CH₄), black carbon (BC), and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). At the same time, decision-makers must translate scientific knowledge into practical actions that can be implemented at scale and at speed.

This interactive dialogue will bring together scientists, policymakers, practitioners, and stakeholders to explore pathways for strengthening heat resilience through robust science and real-time solutions. The discussion will examine the latest scientific understanding of heat risks and the implications for adaptation and risk mitigation strategies under both 1.5°C and 2°C warming pathways. Participants will explore technological solutions, including active and passive cooling approaches, and discuss implementation challenges related to affordability, access, and scalability.

The session will further assess policy frameworks, financing mechanisms, preparedness measures, and collaborative approaches that can accelerate heat resilience across sectors and communities. Drawing on field experiences and case studies, panelists will identify practical lessons and emerging opportunities for action. Through audience engagement and expert dialogue, the event aims to develop a shared understanding of how science, technology, and policy can work together to deliver inclusive, evidence-based, and future-ready heat resilience strategies.
