Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment Seminar with GAIL (India) Limited

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) conducted a seminar on “Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment of Facilities and/or Project Sites” with senior officials and sustainability managers from GAIL (India) Limited at GAIL Jubilee Tower, Noida, on 8 October 2025.
The session, held with the support of Mr. Sameer Virmani, Chief General Manager (Sustainability Development), GAIL, aimed to enhance corporate understanding of integrating climate risk assessment into infrastructure planning.
Dr. Manish Kumar Shrivastava, Associate Director, Earth Science and Climate Change Division, TERI, delivered the keynote presentation, introducing frameworks such as Representative Concentration Pathways (RCPs) and Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs) to assess the physical and transition risks faced by the oil and gas sector. He highlighted the growing exposure of critical assets, pipelines, terminals, and refineries, to floods, cyclones, and droughts, and discussed adaptation measures through scientific modelling and climate projections.
The seminar also featured a demonstration by Mr. Vibhu Batheja, Research Associate, TERI, showcasing the TERI Climate Tool Suite, a decision-support platform that leverages AI/ML algorithms for site-level risk analysis, vulnerability mapping, and automated reporting.
The event witnessed active participation from GAIL’s sustainability and project teams, marking a step forward in building climate resilience and data-driven decision-making in India’s oil and gas infrastructure sector.
