Solar power runs Varanasi's boats

In Varanasi, boatmen run diesel-powered boats to show tourists the famed ghats of the city. As part of an intervention under TERI’s Lighting a Billion Lives (LaBL) programme, these boatmen were provided solar-powered batteries to run their boats, replacing diesel as fuel. With financial assistance received from Indus Towers under their CSR initiative, and co-funding mobilised from the community, many boatmen were able to get access to the rechargeable battery to run their boats, with a solar charging station set up near the ghats for easy access.
