Training programme on Environment Based Urban Renewal
The objectives of this training course were as follows :
To make the officials, of the development authorities, municipalities, district planning agencies, state environment departments, teaching institutions, NGOs, consultants, industry representatives and environmental managers, aware of the various concerning issues of urban decay and understand ways for urban renewal with a view to improving the environmental quality of life of its residents.
The specific objectives were:
(a) Awareness
- Create awareness about the impact of aging of cities
- Awareness towards existing policies and programmes facilitating urban renewal
(b) Knowledge
- The criticality of concerning issues on urban environment
- The different management approaches that can be adopted for urban renewal encompassing socio-economic and environmental issues
- Integrated environmental management approaches
- Various tools for environmental based urban renewal
- Understanding the concept of development of Eco-cities
