Facilitation - Science and tech park study tour for Ghana and Senegal

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, (UNDESA), New York, is supporting a project titled as `Planning for the development of Science and Technology Parks? in Ghana and Senegal, as both the countries are interested in growth of Science and Technology and also in the area of Agro-processing/Food processing research and certification systems. As part of the project, the UNDESA had proposed to expose a small group of 12 Government experts from Senegal and Ghana, for successful India examples of matching innovation with entrepreneurial activity. Considering achievements made at Bangalore in this field, Bangalore had become a natural choice for them for their proposed `study tour? for 3 days during 22nd to 24th October 2007. TERI organised visits to various organisations in government as well as private sector covering relevant topics such as : o Innovation systems and support in India: federal, state and city level (speakers from Government, Chamber of Commerce, etc) o Specific strengths in science and technology/innovation in the Bangalore/Karnataka region, drivers for their development. o Overview of the development of the software and IT services industry in Bangalore o Incubation Processes and Services o Infrastructure fro S and T parks ? Electricity, bandwidth, etc. o Visit to Software Technology Parks of India o Visit to selected software companies active in the African market
