Developing a Glacio-Hydrological Model and IWRM Plan for a Selected Sub-basin in the Central Himalayas, Uttarakhand, India

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), is implementing a programme of ‘Strengthening Climate Change Adaptation in the Himalayas (SCA-Himalayas)’, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), NITI Aayog, Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the state governments from couple of years in India.

Under the broad spectrum of that, a Glacio-hydrological model and an Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) plan were developed for the Bhagirathi basin in the state of Uttarakhand by a consortium led by the FutureWater (Netherlands), with other partners, University of Utrecht (Netherlands), University of Geneva (Switzerland) and TERI (India). A Water Allocation Model for Bhagirathi Basin using the WEAP framework has also been developed. An important component of the initiative is capacity development of the stakeholders and coming up with an implementable solutions.
