Karnataka is home to 41 green buildings, the fourth largest figure for any state in the country. Of them, 39 are in Bangalore. Launched by TERI, GRIHA is suitable for all kinds of buildings in different climatic zones of the country. GRIHA has 300 projects registered with them in the country, of which 14 are in Karnataka.

TERI has proposed a plan to adopt Cansaulim-Arossim-Cuelim as a role model village for waste management. TERI conducted a focus group discussion with relevant stakeholders in charge of waste management at the Cansaulim village panchayat hall. A cross-section of coastal villages including Cansaulim, Velsao, Majorda, Benaulim, Betalbatim, Varca and Sancoale were represented at the meeting by the sarpanchas, deputy sarpanchas, panch members, and members from the panchayat garbage committees.

New green building rating to be introduced

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation will introduce a new green building rating system wherein a building constructed on plot area below 2500 sq m can obtain the rating. The standing committee has approved a resolution to start the system. The resolution stated that the civic body had started the system of green rating for integrated habitat assessment (GRIHA) in the municipal limits to promote construction of green buildings on plots which have an area of more than 2500 sq m.
