New oxidation technology can enhance waste water reuse at lower cost

TERI has developed a technology called The Advanced Oxidation Technology or TADOX® which can reduce less dependence and load on biological and tertiary treatment systems and help achieve zero liquid discharge. The Department of Science and Technology's Water Technology Initiative has supported TERI to develop this technology at bench scale collaboration in tie-up with ONGC Energy Centre, Delhi.

According to the study on Ambient Particulate Matter in Patna City (Bihar) 2021, jointly conducted by the TERI and the Centre for Environment, Energy and Climate Change, the concentration of ambient particulate matter or particle pollution in state capital's air is much higher than the prescribed standards.

According to the study by TERI, out of the total polymer consumption of 16.8 million tonnes per annum in 2018-19, 90% was for plastic and the remaining 10% was for non-plastic consumption. From the total plastic waste generated, about 60% is actually recycled, 8.5% reutilized for energy recovery and repurposing, and about 31.5% is mismanaged plastic waste.

A Dust Management Committee, comprising of experts from IIT Delhi, TERI and Delhi Pollution Control Committee has submitted a dust management plan to the Delhi government, under which warnings will be issued to the project proponent if the PM10 and PM2.5 levels at the site are more than 25% of the air quality readings at the nearest monitoring station.
