India-Japan Environment Week 2023

The Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Japan, and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India (MoEFCC) held the “India-Japan Environment Week” with TERI as one of the co-organisers from January 12 to 13, 2023, in Delhi, India, in combination with online hybrid system.

On January 12, NISHIMURA Akihiro, Minister of the Environment, Japan, and H.E. Mr. Bhupender YADAV, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of India, had a bilateral meeting and agreed to move forward the cooperation between Japan and India as Presidencies of the G7 and the G20 respectively this year.

On January 12 and 13, Minister NISHIMURA Akihiro, Minister Bhupender YADAV, Mr. WAKAMORI Susumu, President of Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in India (JCCII), and Mr. Subhrakant PANDA, President of the Federation of India Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), delivered opening remarks on the Environment Week, followed by keynote speeches and a plenary session concerning building a decarbonized society. Following seminars focusing on the individual issues of Marine Plastic Debris and Waste Management, Carbon Market Mechanism, Environmental Technologies, Air Pollution and Water Pollution were held. Participants from the public and private sectors of both countries had in depth discussions on solution and technologies for environmental issues as well as the rol of each stakeholder and cooperation of both countries.

Furthermore, for the aim of creating business opportunities in the environmental sector of both countries, exhibitions and presentations by enterprises and other business matching events were held toward further business development in India.
