India 2050: Low Carbon Pathways

The Imperial College, London, together with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) organized a one-day workshop titled India 2050: Low Carbon Pathways on 10 June 2013 at Amaltas Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

The workshop focused on modelling of low carbon pathways and the opportunities and challenges for India in pursuing low-carbon development. The objective of this workshop was to provide an opportunity for research groups in the UK and India analysing India's long-term energy technology options to present their findings, discuss the costs and benefits of different technologies, and identify opportunities for further research, development, and international collaboration.

The workshop took off with welcome remarks by Dr Ritu Mathur from TERI and Mr Ajay Gambhir from Imperial College, London. The first session focused on the global application of tools to examine low carbon pathways, and presentations were made by Dr Dan Bernie (UK Met office) and Dr Jan Kiso (UK Department of Energy and Climate Change). In the second session, Dr Amir Bazaz (IIM, Ahmedabad), Mr Ajay Gambhir (Imperial College, London), and Dr Atul Kumar (TERI) made presentations discussing applications of modelling technologies to evaluate low carbon pathways for India in particular.

The afternoon session consisted of a panel discussion moderated by Ambassador Dasgupta (TERI). Discussants included Mr A K Jain (Planning Commission), Dr Ritu Mathur (TERI), Prof. Dilip Ahuja (National Institute of Advanced Sciences), Mr Amresh Deshpande (Schneider Electric India Pvt. Ltd.), and Mr Prasad Menon (Tata Quality Management Services). The workshop concluded with remarks by Mr Ajay Gambhir and Dr Ritu Mathur.
