TERI Hosts Pre-COP28 Dialogue, Launches Road to Dubai and the Global Goal on Adaptation TERI organized a Dialogue, in the wake of the G20 New Delhi Leaders' Declaration's recent ratification during the G20 Leaders' Summit and the eagerly anticipated COP28 in Dubai. The event titled ‘Road to Dubai, from G20 to COP28’ brought together stakeholders to dissect the critical relationship between SDGs and the pressing need for climate action.

World Sustainable Development Summit 2024

The 23rd edition of WSDS will focus on the umbrella theme of 'Leadership for Sustainable Development and Climate Justice'. The Summit deliberations will examine topics such as integrating sustainable development, nature-based solutions, adaptation and resilience, sustainable consumption and lifestyles, addressing the energy trilemma, and climate action.

Launch of ‘Water Sustainability Campaign: Forging a Water Smart Delhi’

A campaign titled ‘Water Sustainability Campaign – forging a Water Smart Delhi’ was launched on 28 October by Shri Durgesh Pathak, MLA Rajendra Nagar Assembly to sensitize the residents of Delhi about the value and preciousness of water. Initiated by TERI with support from JWIL Infra Ltd, the campaign aims to raise awareness in all levels of society about the importance of saving water.

India’s year-long Presidency culminated with the G20 Heads of State and Government Summit that took place on September 9-10, 2023, in New Delhi. In the course of the Presidency, India hosted over 200 G20 meetings across the country to deliberate on themes earmarked under the three workstreams – the Sherpa Track, the Finance Track, and the Engagement Groups.

Scope 3 Inventorization for Corporates

Organizations striving for sustainability and net-zero goals should conduct a greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory. This inventory includes Scope 1 (direct) and Scope 2 (indirect) emissions, which the organization controls and purchases energy, respectively. Additionally, Scope 3 emissions covers indirect emissions throughout the value chain, usually accounting for more than 50% of a company’s emissions. A comprehensive GHG inventory helps identify emission sources and enables organizations to prioritize reduction strategies. Implementing such strategies enhances operational efficiency, reduces costs, and strengthens brand reputation. Overall, GHG inventorization is crucial for organizations aiming to reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to global climate change mitigation efforts.

Clean Air Projects in India (CAP – India)

To tackle the problem of air pollution, GoI has taken several steps such as setting up of national ambient air quality standards and air quality monitoring programme, penetration of gaseous fuels in residential and transport sector, emission norms for highly polluting industries, advanced vehicular emissions, and fuel quality norms etc. Despite these initiatives, the pollutant levels in cities have not reduced and have increased in many cities with the growth patterns. Evidently, more intensive efforts are still required at both urban and national scale to combat the issue.

National Level Health Vulnerability Assessment and develop a Framework for Monitoring and Evaluation of the National Action Plan for Climate Change and Human Health (NAPCCHH)

Climate change has become a major concern in India, with the country experiencing several adverse effects that have impacted public health in various ways. Some of the key health challenges related to climate change in India include vector-borne diseases (VBDs), heat stress, water-borne diseases (WBDs), extreme weather events, and air pollution-related diseases. Such climate change induced diseases are termed as climate sensitive diseases (CSDs).

Remediation and Reclamation of Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) Dumpsite by using Microbial Bioremediation Technology

The project aims at remediation and reclamation of Hexachlorocyclohexane (HCH) dumpsite by the use of biostimulation (BS), bioaugmentation (BA), phytoremediation (Phyto) and combinations thereof. The HCH dumpsite located in the Umari village on the outskirts of Lucknow in Banrabanki district was acquired by the State Forest Department. The objective of this project is to large-scale production of HCH-degrading microbial consortia and reclamation of HCH contaminated sites by implementation of bioremediation (bio-augmentation and bio-stimulation).

Sustainable Aviaton Fuel Roadmap for India

Fossil fuel-sourced Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) has significant environmental impacts along its well-to-wheel chain. In 2021 aviation accounted for over 2% of global energy-related CO2 emissions, having grown faster in recent decades than road, rail or shipping. The estimated consumption of ATF for international operations by Indian operators is expected to reach around 2.2 million tonnes by 2030, while that for domestic operations, it will reach 10.1 million tonnes during the same period. In 2016, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) adopted the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) to address CO2 emissions from international aviation. Considering this, CORSIA implementation will be compulsory in India from 2027, and the role of SAF is critical towards India’s overall quest for achieving net zero emissions by 2070.
