
Dr Livleen Kaur Kahlon is the Director of the Environment Education and Awareness Division (EEA) at TERI. She is an experienced Environment Educator who builds and oversees high performance teams of motivated colleagues for strategic execution of various models of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) to achieve transformative impact amongst a range of target audience. She has a sharp acumen in spearheading research, outreach and conservation education, and her core competencies include critical reviews and analysis of documents related to environment education, youth empowerment and outreach, science popularization and citizen science. Her work with youth involves facilitation of sustainability driven lifestyle changes, intergenerational dialogues for behavioural changes, value education, traditional knowledge systems, etc. Dr Kahlon has represented TERI at several leading international conferences and has a strong rapport with multilateral and bilateral agencies, corporates, government bodies and foundations and trusts.
Prior to TERI, Dr Kahlon worked at renowned institutions like WWF-India and National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources (NISCAIR-CSIR). With close to three decades of experience, she has worked extensively in examining cross-cutting environment issues such as energy, waste, water, climate change, biodiversity, agriculture with a curriculum lens. Her projects promote 21st century skills and are focused on whole institution approach for greater impact.
Dr Kahlon has completed over 100 projects in sustainability space and is a member of IUCN commissions (CEC & CEESP), International Expert Networks (ESD & RCE UNU), several academic councils, and has been conferred with Institutional Rolls' of Honour and Study Scholarships. She has published over 50 research papers, chapters and books in leading peer reviewed journals and with reputed press houses. She is a member of Curriculum Area Group (CAG) constituted by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) to develop Environment Education textbooks. She is also a member of the SWAYAM board constituted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to scale-up the skill-based courses for HEIs. Dr Kahlon is also a member of the Governing Board at IRALE (Indian Regional Association for Landscape Ecology).
With a doctorate degree in Environment Management from GGS Indraprastha University (Delhi) and a Masters in Botany from Delhi University, Dr Kahlon is also an Adjunct Faculty at TERI School of Advanced Studies.
